Questions

Everything you
wanted to ask.

Do I need to know how to play golf?

Not at all. Plenty of our bookings are people who've never held a club. Trackman has a full library of games and challenges — closest to the pin, bullseye, and a few that have nothing to do with golf at all. No handicap, no dress code, no one watching your swing.

What is long drive?

It's golf's power event: one club, the driver, and the longest ball wins. No putting, no handicap and no course to get round. Each player gets a set number of balls, and the longest one that lands in the grid counts.

How does long drive work indoors?

Trackman measures every drive, including ball speed, launch and carry, and shows the result on the screen as you hit. Everyone plays in the same conditions, so it comes down to the swing. We're the first and exclusive Wellington home of XDL Indoor Long Drive, run with the Xtreme Drivers League and the New Zealand Long Blacks.

Who can enter long drive, and when does it start?

Anyone. There are seven divisions: Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Women's Open, Men's Open, Masters Women, Masters Men and Legends Open. Qualifying starts in early 2027 with monthly qualifiers, and the best go on to Wellington Regional Championships and the pathway to the New Zealand Long Blacks. Dates and entry details will be on our Long Drive page.

Do I need to bring clubs?

No. House clubs and balls are included with every session, and we have junior sets for kids. Bring your own if you'd rather — just make sure club faces and balls are clean, as marked or damaged balls can wreck an impact screen. One exception: rental gear is locked away outside staffed hours, so if you book an unstaffed session you'll need to bring your own clubs and balls. Executive club hire is $20 a session.

How does pricing work — per person or per bay?

Per bay, not per person. One flat rate covers up to four players. A fifth or sixth player is $10 per person per hour. Groups of five or more usually have a better time split across two bays — mention it when you book and we'll sort it.

How many people fit in a bay?

Six comfortably. Beyond that you spend more time waiting than swinging, which is why we suggest a second bay for bigger groups.

What's the difference between Foundation and Standard membership?

Same access, different price. Foundation is capped at the first 100 members and closes on launch night, 14 November 2026. Foundation prices are held for three years (you're not tied in) and sit below Standard. Once the 100 are gone, Standard is the only option.

Is membership worth it if I only play occasionally?

Honestly, if you're playing once a month, casual is fine — $80 an hour peak, $60 off-peak. From about twice a month upwards, membership works out cheaper, and you get Trackman data across every session rather than one-off numbers.

Can I bring guests on my membership?

Yes. Playing-guest allowances depend on your tier and whether you're playing peak or off-peak — the full breakdown is in the terms and conditions. Non-playing visitors are always welcome in the bay and don't count towards the limit. Six players per bay is a hard cap either way.

Can kids come?

Yes — and they need a parent or guardian with them. We're inside a licensed premises, so under-18s can be here but must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian for the whole visit. That's a licensing requirement, not a house rule, and it means an older sibling, a mate's parent or a coach doesn't count.

Beyond that, all ages are welcome. We've got junior clubs, and the bays are set up so a four-year-old and a scratch golfer can play in the same session without either being bored. Only one person is in the swing zone at a time.

Is there food and drink?

We're inside Wild Kiwi Distillery, who run the full kitchen and bar. Order to your bay, eat before your session, or stay on afterwards. Everything needs to come from Wild Kiwi though — no outside food or alcohol on the premises. The whole venue is non-smoking and non-vaping.

When does the league start?

Our first full season runs from Autumn 2027. Because we open in the back half of Spring, the first few months are social league nights and practice rather than a rushed part-season. League members play those at no extra charge.

Where exactly are you?

Brewtown, Blenheim Street, Maidstone, Upper Hutt — inside the Wild Kiwi Distillery building. There's no unit number on the building, so head for Wild Kiwi and you've found us.

What if I need to cancel?

Members can cancel a session up to 24 hours before the start time through the booking system at no cost. Inside 24 hours, or if you don't show, the session comes off that month's allocation and isn't refunded or credited. Full detail is in the terms and conditions.

How long is a session, and how far ahead can I book?

Every session is one hour. Book through the online booking system — walk-in availability isn't guaranteed for members. You can hold two future bookings at a time, and once you've played one you can book another. Sessions can be booked back to back if you want a longer run in the bay.

Can my child have a coaching lesson?

Yes. The one condition is that a parent or guardian stays on site for the whole lesson — you're welcome to watch from the bay, or grab a coffee or a drink at Wild Kiwi while it runs. It's a licensing requirement of the building, so a coach supervising on their own doesn't cover it. Book the lesson and we'll let you know the times that suit.

Can an under-18 have their own membership?

They can play on a membership, but they can't come in on their own. Because we're inside a licensed premises, an under-18 needs a parent or guardian on site for the whole session — including coaching and league nights. In practice that means a junior plays on a parent's membership rather than holding their own.

Am I locked into a contract?

There's a three-month minimum term from your first payment. After that it rolls on and you can cancel any time with 14 days' written notice. Billing is weekly, and your session allocation resets each month from your membership start date. Unused sessions don't roll over.

What counts as peak and off-peak?

Peak is Monday to Friday from 5:00pm, plus all day Saturday and Sunday. Off-peak is Monday to Friday, 10:00am to 5:00pm. It affects casual bay rates and how many playing guests you can bring.

What does it cost to enter a league season?

Season entry is charged separately from your membership. League tier members pay $90 a season, Committed members $100, Social members $120, and non-members $150. Entry fees aren't refundable once a season has started.

When do you open?

Launch night is 14 November 2026. Foundation 100 memberships are open now and close that evening or when we reach 100 members, whichever comes first.
